Hard Hitting Hero’s Benefit Tournament

A Hard Hitting Hero’s Benefit Tournament was held in Avilla, IN on October 17th and 18th for two families in need, one of which is Hunter Schermerhorn, a 3rd grader at Avilla Elementary. Cara Smith, a Kindergartener at Avilla Elementary was also a recipient of the benefit funds. The tournament was hosted by Hit the Field Sports, who held softball and baseball tournaments as well as 50/50 drawings, a bake sale and silent auction items. All proceeds were divided among the two families.

Hunter and his family are family friends of David and Carrie Hosted. David, a Superintendent at Fetters Construction, brought the benefit to our attention. We would like to thank all who came and supported these two children and their families. The fundraiser brought in $7,100 for the two families!

Among the sponsors for this benefit was the Purdue Athletic Department. Steve Simmerman and the Purdue Athletic Department donated many items including; a Purdue Basketball autographed by Coach Matt Painter, a Purdue Football autographed by Coach Darrell Hazell, two (2) tickets to the Indiana vs. Purdue Football Game on November 28, 2015 at Ross-Ade Stadium, a Hammer Down Cancer Hat and a Mini-Helmet displaying the Hammer Down Cancer colors worn by the Purdue Football Team on September 26, 2015.
